Please ask permission from parents or guardians to make these.

Please wash your hands well before you start as you may have to handle the food with your fingers! This recipe is good because it doesn’t use sugar, syrup or much butter.

You will need

  • 1 large pan
  • 1 bun tray  which will take at  least 8 cups
  • 8 paper bun cases
  • Kitchen scissors or small kitchen knife to chop cherries or small jelly sweets
  • 1 tablespoon, 1 dessert spoon and 1 wooden spoon
  • Chopping board or plate
  • 8 marshmallows any kind any colour. If using mini mallows allow 6 grams per crispie
  • 1 Glacie cherry - red looks best I think per crispie and a few more if you want some to decorate on top, but keep these separate!!
  • 1 heaped tabsp of rice crispies per marshmallow used
  • 1 tabsp soft butter spread or any spread suitable for baking

Any other ingredients you fancy adding such as choco chips, desiccated coconut, pine nuts, sultanas. You only need about a tabsp of each of these

Sprinkles of any kind if you want to use them to decorate

Have all the ingredients and utensils ready before you start to cook.

Start by putting the paper cases into bun tray.

Chop marshmallows and cherries into quarters, and small fruit jelly sweeties if using. If adding anything else such as coconut, pine nuts, choco chips white, milk or dark get them ready.

Put pan on a medium heat. Melt the butter in the pan just allow it to melt and spread around the pan bottom but do not let it bubble too much, turn heat a bit lower if necessary. Add the marshmallows, allow to melt, keep stirring it around you may have to turn heat up slightly at this stage. When there are nearly no lumps left add the crispies, keep stirring until they are well coated with mallow mixture. You must act quite quickly now or they will get too sticky to handle.Turn off heat and add all the other ingredients you want to put in. Stir it all well. Take the tabsp and put a spoonful of mixture in each bun case. The mixture will now be quite sticky and you may need to use the other spoon to help or use you fingers. DONT LICK THEM!! You may want to put a few more bits of cherries on top to decorate and/or use some sprinkles to decorate top. They are best put in a fridge for a little while. They won't go very hard but will be chewy and a bit crumbly but I hope you will like them.
